Laptops and USB serial adapters

Laptops

Megatune will work on many different Windows laptops. If you have one laying around doing nothing - and it has a serial port - it will be perfect for tuning.  There are other tuning programs out there that run on Linux, Macs, and PDAs, check out the main Megasquirt.info site for more information on these.

If you want to use a newer computer, you can do that too - with a USB serial adapter. Some people have even been using Bluetooth to Serial adapters for wireless tuning.

I am currently using Megatune on a Dell computer with Windows Vista. Vista will make Megatune occasionally crash - but it is caused by the USB serial adapter driver.

USB Adapters

Most new computers do not have serial ports. Use a good USB to serial adapter like the one available from DIYautotune.com

I use a Radio-Shack one - it was expensive, and the drivers are horrible - but it does work most of the time.
