I bought this K&N filter cleaning kit from Germanautoparts.com with my engine
mounts. It's been about 55,000 Miles - so I'm overdue for this...

Get
your Filter out of the Car
There are 4 clips on my car - Your car may be different. Unclip them.
crack your air box, and remove your old filter.
Mine was real dirty as you can see...

Cleaning out the Filter
Bang out all of the loose stuff. Get all the leaves, and big particles of dust. Go over the filter with a brush - gently - I used a nylon brush I had laying around.
After you get that all cleaned out, completely soak the filter with the filter cleaning spray. Get it good from all sides. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
After it's finished soaking, go get the hose and rinse it out. Rinse
from the engine side toward the intake side, so that the dirt stays
outside the engine. Wash it out as completely as you can. Let it dry out
thoroughly. Don't use an air compressor - or you'll blow holes through
the filter! K&N says that hot air can shrink the filter too - so don't
do that either.

Oiling
the filter
DO NOT SOAK THE FILTER WITH OIL!! Just put on enough. The oil has red dye in it - so that you know where you sprayed it. Give the filter the oil.
After it sits for 20 minutes - go ahead and reinstall it in your car. Clip everything back down, Start it and listen to a happy engine!
